Saturnine has regrets.

Sometimes, she wishes she could go back and do things differently. Don’t we all?

She just found out that she can.

Thanks to the good people at Kronotastic Inner Journeys, Saturnine is about to “retrexperience” the unresolved circumstances of her last relationship. Hopefully, as she regresses into the past within her own chronological perception, she’ll be able to figure out what went wrong and finally get over it.

However, time paradoxes and probability theory can really get in the way of closure.

Whether in the past, present, or future, life never does turn out as planned...

A Fun Story in the Spirit of the Best Pulp Fiction

In the heyday of pulp fiction, reaching a fever pitch in the 1930s to '50s, readers devoured smart and highly entertaining short stories. Today, we find those gems from rising talents on Amazon. Ray Hecht's "Saturnine, In Her Head, Out of Time," recalls work by such greats as Richard Matheson, Jerry Sohl, and Ray Bradbury---with a contemporary vibe and twist. I happen to love a good time travel tale and this is one that I found refreshing and very satisfying!

Hecht is having fun with sci-fi tropes such as naming the mysterious time travel clinic, Kronostastic Inner Journeys--and giving the main character the other-worldly name of Saturnine. Well, her name means "slow and gloomy" and that is exactly what she is. But will going back in time really help her with the biggest unresolved issue of her life? That is the classic time travel question, is it not? Hecht provides an inventive, fanciful, and thought-provoking answer.

Saturnine In Her Head Out of Time eBook Ray Hecht Reviews

Saturnine, In Her Head, Out of Time by Ray Hecht is a short story about what it would be like for a young girl, lost love, and a chance to go back and do it all over again. A cute story worth the read.
This is as much a traditional comedy of errors set in the future as scifi, although it does belong to the latter genre. Hecht takes a common and natural human wish--to go back in time and correct one's mistakes--and explores the implications of this really happening. Other writers and film directors have explored the same avenue, but Hecht is unique in including the laws of physics, e.g. a cause always follows an effect. The protagonists are two ex-lovers one of whom deserted the other, and both want to go back to the party where they were supposed to meet to resolve their ruptured relationship. The denouement has an ironic twist.
A gripping short story from Ray Hecht about time travel and just how far you would go to get closure with the past. I like that Ray's take on time travel was unique. And the idea of going back in time to relive a moment (and hopefully gain closure) is tantalizing. I gave this 4 stars only because I wish it was longer than 33 pages. The writing was excellent and I hope to see more of this from Ray.
Saturnine has problems; she can’t get over her ex. She has sought help and still 2 years on, she still needs closure.
That’s when she sees the advert that says time travel is here. After begging her doctor and persuading him that this is what she needs to get closure she sets off on her journey.

The clinic tells her she can’t change history, and all she needs to do is focus on where she wants to be in her past.

A new take on time travel and an enjoyable read. I had many questions as I read, is time travel real or is it just a form of hypnosis they put her under? Why does she keep travelling to the same spot if she can’t change the past?
All these questions and more get answered at the end. Well worth a read!
I've read a few of Ray's books, and I have to say that this one was definitely one of my favourites. Saturnine was first introduced to us as a sad and lonely woman, who is desperate to go back in time and meet with Julio, an ex-boyfriend during her senior year of college. Saturnine seeks out a time-travel business, which allows her to go back to the last time she saw Julio. However, things don't go as planned, and Saturnine is left disappointed yet again. I was surprised to read the epilogue as it was something that I certainly didn't expect (and won't spoil for all of you, you will just have to read it for yourselves). I enjoyed Ray's writing, and found that his characters were definitely able to capture the attention of the audience. I truly felt for Saturnine, and wanted her to succeed in finding the happiness she deserved. Ray's story can truly resonate with all of us, and that is what I loved most about it. I hope that Ray decides to make this into a longer story as there is definitely much more room for a sequel, or even a prequel!
'Saturnine, In Her Head, Out of Time' further explores a theme Ray tackled in 'This Modern Love' the crushing loneliness of an increasingly connected world, this time in the form of a cutting edge treatment that allows users to hallucinate the past. Billed as a form of time travel and a way to provide closure, what Kronotastic really provides is a heightened dream. You can't change the past because it's not really the past, these are your memories.

Saturnine yearns to correct a past mistake and her story highlights the dangers of focusing on the past. I won't spoil things, suffice to say that closure is not found by going back. Recommended.
Saturnine, In Her Head, Out of Time by Ray Hecht is a science fiction short story exploring the paradox of time travel. Saturnine is trying to figure out why her boyfriend ghosted her and most of his friends. The lack of closure has been messing with her head and her relationships for two years. Unfortunately, the process doesn't allow changes, in order to preserve the timeline.

The ending is quite a surprise. I'm glad the readers are given closure, but the story seems so vanilla. No real action, nothing dramatic...just a troubled young woman reliving one night from her past.
